Disney is once again collaborating with Food Bank For New York City, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository to help provide approximately 450,000 nutritious meals* to help ensure every child has access to the meals they need to grow, play and thrive during the summer months when they are out of school. With help from the cast of Emmy Award-winning FX series “The Bear,” this program kicked off on Tuesday, June 24 and will service children and families in New York City, Los Angeles, as well as Chicago, where the show is set and produced.

“The Bear” actor Corey Hendrix visits Greater Chicago Food Depository in Chicago, Illinois.

ABC Owned Television Stations in those markets – WABC in New York City, KABC in Los Angeles and WLS in Chicago – along with Good Morning America, broadcasted coverage, providing critical information about summer hunger and how food insecurity impacts the communities they serve.

“We are incredibly grateful to our partners at Disney, especially FX, Hulu and ABC’s Owned Television Stations, for their continued efforts to support Feeding America and people, especially children, who face food insecurity,” said Courtney Storer, Co-Executive Producer of The Bear. “We hope this initiative brings attention to this issue, and we hope fans of The Bear will join us in supporting this cause.”

“No school means no lunch for millions of kids across the country,” said Lauren Biedron, Senior Vice President of Corporate and Foundation Partnerships at Feeding America. “We are thankful for our longstanding collaboration with Disney and for this opportunity to help us raise awareness for summer hunger to help provide fresh, nutritious meals to our neighbors so they can access the food they need to thrive.”

According to Feeding America, more than 20 million children rely on school meals during the year. When summer arrives and school meals are no longer available, the Feeding America network works alongside communities to get nutritious food to food banks and summer meal programs across the country.

Over the past 10 years, The Walt Disney Company has been committed to the effort to end hunger, teaming up with Feeding America to donate millions of meals to children and families who need it most, including this recent gift, which is part of an annual donation that will deliver nearly five million meals. Disney has participated in food rescue programs through their theme parks, ensuring millions of pounds of perfectly good food reach the tables of community members nationwide; Disney VoluntEARS efforts, which provide opportunities for employees and cast members to dedicate thousands of volunteer hours to their local food banks; and through their Disney Matching Gifts program.
