From oceans here in the United States, all the way to the grasslands of Botswana and the forests of Indonesia—these places are “home” to unique species that make each place special. For the past 20 years, The Walt Disney Company, through the Disney Conservation Fund, has made significant strides in conserving these natural and precious wonders so that we can continue to enjoy their beauty and diversity for years to come.
One way we’re able to protect our planet and wildlife is through the Disney Conservation Fund’s annual conservation grants. This year, we’re proud to announce that nearly $3 million in grants will benefit 104 projects that span five continents. Some of my favorite projects from this year include the Orangutan Research and Conservation project in Indonesia that’s working to bring the species back from the brink of extinction, and the Archie Carr Refuge Education Program in the U.S., which is engaging residents in creating healthy habitats for nesting sea turtles.
“For the past 20 years the Disney Conservation Fund has helped local communities and scientists protect animals and their habitats around the globe,” said Beth Stevens, senior vice president of Corporate Citizenship, Environment & Conservation. “This work will ensure that future generations will be left with a healthy, thriving planet.”
Since its inception in 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund has distributed more than $30 million through annual grants. To date, this support has made a positive impact in many areas. The program has helped conserve more than 400 species around the world; supported the protection of more than 3,600 square miles of habitat—the equivalent of nearly 60 Walt Disney World Resorts; and funded education programs that have directly engaged more than three million people in conservation efforts.
And one of the best parts about the fund is that Disney guests play a role in helping to conserve nature through their contributions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, The Seas and Land at Epcot, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club Resorts and select Walt Disney World Resorts.
From all of us at Disney, congratulations to all of this year’s grant recipients. For a complete list, visit Disney.com/Conservation.
