Delivering Joy to Children’s Hospitals Across Asia Pacific

Did you know that Disney has collaborated with more than 100 hospitals across the Asia Pacific region to bring the positive power of its stories and characters to help reimagine the patient experience?

From vibrant interactive murals in Australia to Disney Imagineer-designed mobile movie theatres in Japan, read on to discover highlights of how Disney is delivering joy across the region!

Transforming the Hospital Environment with Interactive Murals and Digital Displays

Sydney Children’s Hospital

Earlier this year, Disney unveiled over 200 specially commissioned interactive murals and digital displays at Sydney Children’s Hospitals in Randwick and Westmead

These visually stunning additions draw children into the vibrant worlds of Disney’s storytelling and add to murals installed across children’s hospitals in Greater China, Japan, India, Singapore and Thailand!

Accompanying the murals is the Disney Team of Heroes app, loaded with games, interactive tales, animated character encounters, augmented reality and more to transform hospital waiting times into moments filled with imagination and fun.

Creating Moments of Comfort with Disney-themed Play Spaces

Disney Fun House in Qingdao Children’s Hospital

Have you heard of ‘Disney Fun Houses’? In June 2016, Disney announced funding for Disney-themed play spaces – called Disney Fun Houses – at 50 children’s hospitals across China. Featuring Disney characters and infused with storytelling from beloved films, Disney Fun Houses provide young patients and their families a space for interactive play activities hosted by Disney VoluntEARS and hospital staff. The 50th Fun House opened in Hangzhou, China this summer, its first-of-its-kind Zootopia theme delighting young patients and the people who care for them.

In South Korea, Disney created a play space at Korea University Guro Hospital in collaboration with Make-A-Wish and LG Uplus. This area offers a playful retreat for children and families, complete with Disney books and a wall-mounted TV screen displaying Disney animation.

Delivering Movie Magic with Mobile Movie Theaters

Disney delivered Disney Imagineer-designed  mobile movie theatres to numerous hospitals across the region.

National Center for Child Health and Development in Japan

The mobile movie theatres, inspired by the cinema on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland Resort, offer patients and their families a place to gather, create memories, and watch complimentary Disney movies. At Taipei Medical University Hospital, the mobile movie theatre has become an integral part of the play area and used to host multiple movie parties.

Bringing the Positive Power of Disney Characters and Visits

Hong Kong Children’s Hospital “Dress Well” children’s patient clothing

At Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, Disney offers the “Dress Well” collection of children’s patient clothing, embracing practicality while featuring silhouettes of familiar Disney characters hidden within the colorful, nature-inspired patterns. This provides young patients with opportunities for look-and-find fun.

In these hospitals, the dedication of the staff truly transforms patient care. Disney added a playful touch to hospital staff uniforms with opportunities for staff to choose Disney-themed badges featuring favorite characters and familiar messages. When pinned to a doctor’s coat or caregiver’s scrubs, they provide an opportunity for connection with patients.

Additionally, Disney VoluntEARS at hospitals throughout the region dedicate hours to supporting young patients and their families. In Hong Kong, the “PlayWell with Disney” program brings Disney VoluntEARS twice a month to engage patients and caretakers at Hong Kong Children’s Hospitals with interactive storytelling, dancing, and magic performances, as well as hosting large seasonal events.

These initiatives are all part of The Walt Disney Company’s $100 million global commitment to help reimagine the patient experience in children’s hospitals around the world. With the recent expansion across the Asia Pacific region, Disney continues to share the positive power of our storytelling and characters to deliver joy when it’s needed most.
