Disney’s Moana 2 Brings Moments of Happiness Around the World

In celebration of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana 2, Disney created memorable wish-granting and children’s hospitals experiences that brought moments of happiness to children facing critical illnesses in over 15 countries. 

Kids and families in children’s hospitals around the world experienced themed deliveries, events, and through the Disney Movie Moments program, patients at more than 500 children’s hospitals around the world now have access to watch Moana 2, while it’s still in theaters.  

With the help of talent and global collaborators, Disney also helped grant Moana 2 wishes all over the world for children facing critical illness. 

United States 

Moana 2 in U.S. Children’s Hospitals

Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson joined stars, filmmakers and special guests at the Lanikūhonua Cultural Institute in Ko Olina, Hawaii, for the world premiere of Moana 2. To extend the premiere festivities, patients at five children’s hospitals on Oʻahu were among the first to watch Moana 2 ahead of its exclusive theatrical release on November 27.  

Disney also worked with Starlight Children’s Foundation to bring Moana 2 to patients across the country. Along with access to the film, U.S. hospitals received deliveries of brand-new Moana-themed Starlight hospital gowns, toys and books, and a Movie Party in a Box,containing an assortment of themed products for hospital staff to host viewing parties for patients who cannot visit theaters due to medical restrictions.

Dwayne Johnson Grants Wishes in Hawaii  

Disney teamed up with Dwayne Johnson and Make-A-Wish®  to create an unforgettable experience for wish kids in Hawaii. Five Make-A-Wish kids had their heartfelt wishes granted when they met Dwayne Johnson, who invited them to attended the Moana 2 premiere as his personal guests.

Wish kids also experienced everything that Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa had to offer, including attending KA WA’A – a Lū’au, and were surprised with a wave of Moana-inspired toys, accessories, apparel and more, so they could take home a piece of their amazing adventure and cherish these special memories.   

Australia 

With the help of Starlight Children’s Foundation, 11 children’s hospitals in Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle, Canberra, and Melbourne received Moana 2 Movie Party in a Box themed party supplies and access to screen the brand-new film. 

Canada 

In Vancouver, Disney screened Moana 2 at a heartwarming event in collaboration with Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada, bringing together 200 patients and family members for a morning of creative fun.  

Guests were excited to draw with local artists before the screening, especially after learning that the Disney Animation Studios Vancouver team played a key role in creating Moana 2. 

“It was particularly rewarding to watch the film with the children and hear their live reactions—their laughter, excitement, and joy truly brought the film to life in a new way, making this event an unforgettable moment for all involved,” a Disney employee shared. 

China 

The “Wish Space,” a playroom supported by Make-A-Wish Shanghai and Disney China, was officially inaugurated at the Shanghai Children’s Medical Center. Following the launch ceremony, Disney VoluntEARS engaged in fun Moana 2-themed interactions with patients and presented them with Moana-themed gifts.

Finland & Sweden 

To coincide with the Nordic premiere of Moana 2, nearly a thousand toys were distributed to hospitals in the region. 

Disney VoluntEARS and Kari Korhonen, a renowned local Donald Duck cartoonist, delighted young patients at Uusi Lastensairaala (Helsinki New Children’s Hospital). Kari created personalized sketches based on the children’s requests, bringing moments of happiness to the children and their families. 

In Sweden, 40 children and their families were able to see Moana 2 at an exclusive screening with Min Stora Dag, a local nonprofit that grants wishes for critically ill children. 

Italy 

Disney worked with MediCinema Italia, a charity that provides therapeutic cinema experiences to help improve the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of patients and their loved ones, for the Italian premiere of Moana 2 in Rome. A charitable screening welcomed over 700 guests and featured a panel discussion with the director of Moana 2 and the Italian voice cast, Moana 2-themed experiences, and traditional Polynesian music and dance performances.

Disney hosted additional charitable screenings of Moana 2 in Rome, Milan, and Padua. At the Pediatric Hospice in Padua, Disney also unveiled a brand-new Mobile Movie Theatre, which includes complimentary Disney+ content and offers patients and their families a gathering space for shared experiences. 

Poland 

Disney hosted a festive celebration at Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka (Children’s Health Center) in Warsaw, Poland. Young patients were able to see Moana 2 on Disney Mobile Movie Theatres surrounded by themed decorations.

South Africa 

In South Africa, Disney worked with Reach for a Dream, a nonprofit organization that makes dreams come true for children facing critical illnesses, to deliver moments of happiness with Moana 2. Children, families, and Reach for a Dream staff were invited to attend a special screening of the brand-new film in Johannesburg. 

A few days later, Disney hosted another screening with Ośrodek Rehabilitacyjno-Edukacyjny Wychowawczy (OREW PSONI), an NGO in Koło supporting children and adults with mental disabilities. 400 guests were able to see Moana 2 and enjoy special gifts and activities. 

Portugal 

Disney is distributing Moana adventure packs to patients in Portuguese children’s hospitals, aiming to bring moments of happiness and Moana’s adventurous spirit to children undergoing care. 

Romania 

15 children and their families had a magical experience in Bucharest with the help of Asociatia Magic, a local nonprofit that supports children with serious illnesses. The children and their families were invited to attend the red carpet gala premiere of Moana 2 in the city.

Spain 

In Spain, Disney brought Vaiana 2 (Moana 2) to 3 children’s hospitals, and more than 250 children in Barcelona and Madrid were able to see the new film during the theatrical window. Screenings like the ones in Spain are vital in ensuring that children in the hospital have access to the same opportunities as other children.

Taiwan 

Matzka and Makav, the celebrity singers who voiced Maui and Moana in the Taiwanese-Mandarin version of Moana 2, visited children and families at National Taiwan University Children’s Hospital (NTUCH) in Taipei. The singers, joined by Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, helped celebrate the unveiling of new Disney-themed installations, designed to bring beloved Disney stories and characters to life for the tens of thousands of children who undergo treatment at NTUCH each year.

Turkey 

Disney and Make-A-Wish Türkiye brought 13 Make-A-Wish children, families, and volunteers to the Moana 2 premiere in Turkey.

United Kingdom 

Disney Makes a Splash for UK Children’s Hospitals

In collaboration with MediCinema UK, Disney hosted six screenings of Moana 2 for pediatric patients and their families. Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool received a special screening of Moana 2 on the morning of the London Premiere to coincide with a new MediCinema opening at the hospital. The event included interactive activities and a surprise meet-and-greet with Moana, who helped the children “wayfind” to the new cinema within the hospital.

Disney UK Grants Wishes

With the help of Make-A-Wish UK, children facing critical illnesses had their wishes granted around the London premiere of Moana 2. 

For two of the Make-A-Wish children, their heartfelt wish was to meet Dwayne Johnson. Along with their families, they were invited to the Corinthia Hotel in London for a special meet and greet, followed by an exclusive screening of Moana 2.

To honor the incredible work they do to bring moments of happiness to children facing critical illnesses, wish granters and their families were treated to a Moana-themed boat ride on the River Thames and a meet-and-greet with Auliʻi Cravalho, the voice of Moana.
